We at Caltech are playing a mindless rat-race to get our page a high pagerank on Google or Bing. Through Prof. A. Wierman's course "Ideas behind the Web", we are getting to learn things going on in the current web and it's amazing to know that there is a stream of business called "Search Engine Optimization." Guess what they do? For example, when you are a comedian trying to make your living out of comedy shows in pasadena and somebody searches "comedy show in Pasadena" on Google or Yahoo, you need to make your web-page or business-site become one of the first few pages on these search-engines. These search-engine optimizers simply help you to get that done using their techniques to increase your so-called "page-rank" on Google/ Bing/ Yahoo!. Impossible! This now enters into my list of "crazy businesses."
Anyways, cutting long story short, our job as a part of the course is to get our page rank high on Google/ Bing.
